Oh man, back to the weekly grind....whatever that looks like now. I realized this morning that this quarantine routine has been going on for over a month. They say it takes 21 days for something to become a habit so I keep wondering if this is the new normal.....can't say I am a huge fan.....
As I studied Mosiah 18 this morning there were three things that stood out to me:
1) How Abinadi's effort to teach turned into one changed heart, Alma's. Then Alma's efforts multiplied to 204 and eventually at the end of the chapter 450. Don't ever forget the powerful impact your light can have on others. Elder Anderson addressed just a few weeks ago in General Conference the ability for our past spiritual experiences to impact ourselves and others in dark times in the video below. What are you doing to share your precious moments with others to light their way?
2) My next thing that stood out to me hales from Mosiah 18:8-10 which Elder Holland taught, "This declaration by Alma at the Waters of Mormon still stands as the most complete scriptural statement on recrod as to what the newly baptized commit to do and be" (Jeffrey R. Holland, Christ and the New Covenant, pg 106). In this time of difficulty and separation what are you doing to honor your baptismal covenants? How do you mourn, comfort, bear other's burdens right now? What are you doing to stand as a witness of God even when you are constantly at home with no one watching? How have your efforts to honor your baptismal covenants brought the Spirit more abundantly upon you?
3) The final thing that stood out to me was in Mosiah 18:34 where, "Alma and the people of the Lord were apprised of the coming of the king's army". For the fourth time in The Book of Mormon the righteous are warned to flee. Lehi was warned (1 Nephi 2:1-2) to leave Jerusalem, Nephi was warned to separate himself from his brothers (2 Nephi 5:5), and Mosiah was warned to flee with the righteous out of the land of Nephi (Omni 1:12). The real question I have been asking myself is what has the Lord been warning me against? Are there things in my life (habits, people, hobbies, etc.) that I need to separate myself from to stay safe?
Hopefully this gives you some things to look for and ponder while you read and study today.
